Creative
Berlin has long been known as a very liberal city. Even amongst the German people Berliners are known as a care-free, tolerant bunch, for that very reason it has attracted artists and musicians for generations including the likes of David Bowie and Iggy Pop.
Berlin is intrinsically linked with art and culture and oozes with creativity as you stroll through the many boroughs especially the Friedrichshain Kreuzberg areas where street art is at every turn.
One such creative is Czech born visual artist Martin Gabriel Pavel who has made the city his home.
Martin is the man behind “The Daily Project Berlin“, which, to put it in context is one camera and 365 nude/semi-nude Berliners.
The Photoshoot
One takes a photo then goes to another’s house and takes their photo, they then go and do the same until 365 photos have been taken.
All participants are strangers bar the fact that they have met once prior in a public setting to “break the ice” before their nude photoshoot.
Regarding the execution of the photoshoot’s you could almost say its like a relay race where instead of passing the torch people are taking photographs and passing the camera to the next participant who goes on to do the same and so it starts again.
Diverse
Another cool by-product of the project is that it acts as a means for people to meet others who they may not necessarily meet in their day to day lives never mind posing nude as their photographer’s muse for those (probably awkward) few moments.
Its an incredibly diverse selection of people and one thing is for sure, you certainly cant be shy to take part.
The photoshoot takes place in your home and while you don’t necessarily have to be totally in your birthday suit you must at the very least be in a state of undress i.e underwear.. oh and you must be over 18 of course.
The project is totally non-profit so there is no fee to take part.
The goal is to have 365 photographs of Berliners in the buff to be exhibited in a gallery as well as being published in a book.
