Ok, Real talk ; This Summer alone has brought Poltergeist (A remake) Jurassic World ( A reboot) Terminator Genisys (Another reboot) and the highly anticipated trailer for a new Star Wars film! Of course we could (and lets face it have) complain about how our childhoods are being pillaged and nothing is original anymore or could we admit that clearly retro is king. There is an undeniable comforting enjoyment in revisiting the heroes of our youth and re-experiencing the stories of our childhoods.

For this reason and many others (namely an affordable and fully stocked bar) The Lighthouse Cinema Smithfield is one of the greatest places to chill of an evening in Dublin. As well as new release’s The Lighthouse cinema always has a wonderfully colourful programme of retro classics! LIGHT HOUSE

Halloween 2014 saw them host A Grindhouse night which showed the Brandon Lee classic The Crow. The Christmas season was full of festive greats such as Home Alone and A Muppets Christmas Carol. And this Summer they are treating us to some of THE greatest films of 80’s childhoods! On the 8th of July the season ‘Films You’d Love Your Kids To See In The Cinema’ began. Films being shown include ; The Goonies, Back To The Future, Indiana Jones, Karate Kid, Labyrinth, ET, The Neverending Story and The Dark Crystal! neverending story

So if you are craving retro cinema but not willing to hand over 12 euro to see your childhood flogged with a new incarnation of the classic you remember, get yourself to The Lighthouse cinema Smithfield and enjoy the classics as you remember them!
